The River View Curriculum
Our Curriculum
At River View, our aim is to educate the whole child in a way that prepares them fully for later life. We provide the foundation for fully developed citizens. We believe that English and maths are important but need to be complemented by a wide range of skills, some of which can only be taught through shared experiences, challenges and adventures. We believe that it is our job to create well developed future citizens of Great Britain who have a love, knowledge and awareness of what it is to be a British citizen. Our role is to model and teach the values that children need to contribute effectively to society. There is no better way to do this than learning through experience.
Our staff have worked carefully to maximise the learning experiences that are right on our doorstep. You will often see groups of children walking to local places, developing their understanding of our local area, how it has been shaped by nature, how the River Irwell dominates our landscape and how the cities of Manchester and Salford developed as great centres of cultural and commercial importance during the industrial revolution and beyond.
There are four key functions of our school and these are reflected in each topic and aspect of the curriculum. These are:

- Engaging the Whole Community
The curriculum is driven by all staff at River View with key staff members being responsible for key areas of learning.
Our curriculum is based on the 2014 National Curriculum. On the left hand side of this page are downloadable links to the curriculum for each year group. The curriculum is organised to ensure that the children have a broad and balanced diet.
Reading, Writing and Maths are taught daily, Science and PE are taught weekly and children in Key Stage 2 also learn Spanish in a weekly session.
All children are assessed termly and all parents receive an annual report that includes end of year outcomes at the end of the academic year (July). There are two Parents' Evenings (December and March) a year to discuss children's attainment and progress with staff. Staff also welcome the opportunity to discuss progress throughout the year and provide additional advice and support for parents in informal meetings, parental workshops and Via Google Classroom.
